The Gitga’at Transporter is a purpose built 55 foot aluminum hull landing craft which incorporates a 12 foot wide bow ramp for ease of loading. The vessel design makes it very stable and provides ample deck space for all types of freight and equipment. The cargo deck is 50 feet long and 12 feet wide at minimum; the maximum cargo load is 15,000 kg (33,000 pounds). The vessel has a comfortable heated cabin set above the cargo deck which is fitted out with a small galley, head, and seating for 4 passengers. It is equipped with a Hiab crane lift which can lift 4,700 pounds at its full extension of 8 feet. Advanced navigation electronics are provided including sonar and communications. Propulsion for the vessel will come from twin Volvo marine diesel inboard engines.

When in operation, the vessel will be the only one like it stationed on the north central coast of BC. The landing craft’s cargo capacity is about 50% more than competitive vessels and the deck is much more spacious, permitting larger or bulkier cargos. The ramp and Hiab crane provides loading and unloading flexibility for customers in remote locations and gives the vessel a significant competitive advantage. As well, the freight business is entirely owned and operated by the Gitga’at Nation.
